I always enjoy a good spoof of academia. In this campus novel, Ingrid Yang, an 8th-year PhD candidate of Taiwanese American heritage, discovers that neither her powerful thesis advisor nor the Chinese-American poet who is the subject of her research are who they seem to be. As Ingrid causes an uproar on the campus, resulting in an unforgettable dissertation defense, the author casts a sharp and often humorous eye on university life, cancel culture, and Asian representation.
