Kerri Arsenault grew up in a mill town on the Androscoggin River in Maine. Unlike many in her beloved community, she left the state when she grew up. Now she returns to see with fresh eyes the devastating destruction of Maine’s natural resources, and the willingness of those in power to look the other way for decades as the waters, the land, and the working-class people are poisoned by greed. For all of us from out of state who view Maine as a pristine “vacation-land,” this book is a wake-up call.
