Start reading and you will be sucked into this addictive tale of the world’s end. It starts so innocuously with a white family from Brooklyn bringing their two kids to a distant part of Long Island for a summer vacation in a comfortable rental complete with pool and hot tub. Then it turns into a novel about racism, when the parents are startled late at night by an African-American couple on the doorstep; they turn out to be the house’s owners come to seek safety after a power outage in the city. With the television and cell phones not working, it takes a slow rise in unexplainable occurrences for everyone in the house to realize the danger. A brilliant book at the top of the bestseller list; it will give you much to think about.
