Winner of the 2020 Booker Prize and a National Book Award finalist, this beautiful and heart-breaking novel is about a boy growing up in run-down public housing in Glasgow, Scotland. Shuggie adores his alcoholic mother, Agnes. Neither can fit in with their peers; each struggles to maintain their pride and dignity in a hostile environment. Admirers of Ocean Vuong’s autobiographical novel, On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous, will find Stuart’s book very moving.
