Rachel Joyce, author of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, does not disappoint in this latest of her novels about very likable eccentric British characters. This time the characters - Margery Benson, a spinster schoolteacher, and fun-loving young Enid Pretty, are far from their homes in 1950s London, trying to find the (possibly nonexistent) golden beetle of New Caledonia. This utterly mismatched and unprepared team of would-be entomologists overcome many obstacles, and capture the reader’s heart by the surprise ending.
