Word lovers will have great fun with this entertaining romp through Swansby’s Encyclopaedic Dictionary. In 1899, Peter Winceworth spends his days working on entries for the S section of this ambitious multi-volume work. Over 100 years later, Mallory’s internship at the still incomplete Swansby’s New Encyclopaedic Dictionary is geared at getting the work ready for digitization by looking for mountweazels. (Yes, that’s a thing.) Chapter titles take the reader through the alphabet as these parallel stories fill in gaps to an unexpected ending.
