Valley author Debra Jo Immergut follows up her Edgar-nominated novel The Captives with a page-turner that is also a meditation on life as an artist, on balancing family and finances with creating new work. Abby Willard is a middle-aged wife and mother with a corporate job. The book travels through New York City's many neighborhoods, following Abby as she suddenly is pulled back to a terrifying event that took place when she was 22 and a young artist with a taste for wildness. As she fights the onslaught of memories, her teenage son is drawn to a dangerous radical movement, and the police find much of interest in both their lives.
