This powerful book was just named the non-fiction winner of the 2020 Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Three years ago the Internet lit up with the story of Jane Doe, a young woman who was raped while unconscious by a Stanford University athlete outside a campus party. Her assailant got off with a slap on the wrist as the judge said he had a promising life ahead of him. Her victim impact statement went viral after the sentencing and was so powerful that some skeptics doubted whether the victim, "Jane Doe," had really written it. Now the author of that statement has written an account of her experience in the very same direct, honest, and powerful prose. The reader rejoices to see how her statement enabled her to triumph over adversity (and caused the judge to be recalled by voters), as women and men nationwide responded to her words.
