Jennifer Rosner, formerly of Leverett and now living on the other side of the river, is known to many in the community. It is very exciting to see the publication of her debut novel (and second adult book). The book is about a mother and her daughter, a musical prodigy, who are, at the start of the story, hiding in a barn in German-occupied Poland. They must stay absolutely still, and yet the mother teaches her daughter in a whispered voice to read and compose music. In addition to being a moving novel about a mother’s love for her child, it shows the power of music to help us survive extraordinary circumstances.
