One of the pleasures of a book group is that it introduces you to books you would not otherwise have read. In this way, I discovered this collection of short stories by the National Book Award-winning author of The Good Lord Bird. From the first pages of the first story (about an antique toy collector in pursuit of the most valuable and elusive toy ever made in America), I knew I was in the hands of a master craftsman, and I could relax and savor the book. The stories vary greatly, from historical fiction to fantasy, but all are bold and surprising. An excellent choice for book groups.
