We often partner with the Town of Amherst and local organizations to serve our community. Our current onsite joint activities include:
The Friends of the Jones Libraries have partnered with Amherst Regional Public Schools for over a decade to introduce every second grade student in our school system to the joys of reading and borrowing materials from public libraries. Class visits include a tour of the collection, an opportunity to learn about library services and get a library card, and storytime! Students are also invited to choose a book to take home and keep forever as a gift from the Friends of the Jones Libraries. We are grateful to the ARPS teachers and administrative offices for their help organizing these visits. In 2022, the Every Child a Reader program returns after a pandemic hiatus. We look forward to welcoming students each Monday from November 28 through December 19, and on Friday, December 16, from 9:00 - 11:00 am. We thank patrons of the Jones Library for their patience during these visits!
We are collecting new, unopened, non-perishable donations. High demand items include canned vegetables, soups, cereal, oatmeal, pasta, and peanut butter.
Community Responders for Equity, Safety & Service (CRESS) is a new public safety department in the Town of Amherst. CRESS team members will be onsite at the library to answer your questions and help connect you to available resources.
Amherst Community Connections (ACC) provides information about emergency services including housing, rental assistance, food stamps, fuel & utility assistance, and emergency financial assistance to anyone in need. ACC has walk-in hours on Wednesday afternoons, except when the library is closed for holidays or inclement weather. No appointment is necessary. Walk-ins are welcome.
For those who cannot come during ACC's walk-in hours, an appointment can be made by calling the office at 413-345-0737.
