LIBRARIAN II — HEAD OF BRANCH SERVICES



The Jones Library, Inc. in Amherst, MA seeks to hire an enthusiastic, creative, and service-oriented Head of Branch Services to perform highly professional public library work overseeing services in two busy and beloved Branch libraries.

The successful candidate will oversee daily Branch operations including supervision of Branch staff and volunteers; assisting patrons in the use of materials and services; working with Jones Library staff on Branch collection management and technology needs; overseeing Branch programming and PR; coordinating Branch maintenance and capital projects with Jones Library staff. This person will also be a member of the Jones Library’s Reference team and will participate in the overall policy-making of the Library.

Requirements include a Master's Degree in Library Science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association, and at least three years’ experience in library operations. Excellent supervisory, managerial, budgeting, and planning skills. Expertise with current technology and library applications, including social media, and the ability to adapt to emerging technologies. Experience and genuine enjoyment in working with people of all ages and backgrounds; bilingual capabilities strongly preferred. Knowledge of reader’s advisory techniques, reference tools, and resources. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library collection development, selection tools, and techniques. Ability to work as a part of a team and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers, the general public, and partner agencies.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week; including nights and Saturdays) position with a generous benefits package. The FY22 salary range is $56,781 - $76,309 in 11 steps.
